The Technology
NOIZE is a five-layer system designed to be permanently installed during building construction, delivering noise awareness as a building utility.
System Architecture
Sensor
Permanent in-wall/ceiling acoustic sensors installed during construction
Hub
In-unit touchscreen display showing live noise levels (4-8 inches)
Processing
Real-time noise metric computation and threshold evaluation
Application
Resident mobile app and property management dashboard
Service
Subscription billing, violation workflow, and compliance reporting
Product Renderings
Smart Hub Display
4-8 inch touchscreen installed in the wall of each unit. Displays live noise-level waveform, decibel scale (40-100 dB), and status indicators. Operates in portrait or landscape orientation.
Acoustic Sensor Unit
Contact microphone sensors designed for permanent installation within wall and ceiling cavities. Detect structural vibrations rather than airborne sound, ensuring complete privacy protection.
Privacy Architecture
What NOIZE Does
- ✓ Detects vibrations through solid building materials
- ✓ Computes numeric noise level metrics in decibels
- ✓ Displays live noise status on in-unit hub
- ✓ Sends automated alerts when thresholds are exceeded
What NOIZE Never Does
- ✗ Record audio or speech content
- ✗ Store any sound recordings
- ✗ Transmit intelligible audio to any party
- ✗ Capture conversations or private sounds
Privacy is a design constraint of the system architecture, not a policy-only commitment. Contact microphones physically detect vibrations transmitted through solid materials — drywall, studs, ceiling joists — rather than airborne sound waves. This means the sensors are physically incapable of capturing intelligible speech or conversation content. Only derived numeric acoustic metrics are ever processed or stored.
Infrastructure, Not a Gadget
Built During Construction
NOIZE sensors are installed during the construction phase, integrated into the building's structural framing before drywall is hung. This is permanent building infrastructure, not a portable consumer device.
Always-On, Zero Maintenance
Powered by the building's electrical system and connected to building Wi-Fi. Cannot be unplugged, moved, or disabled by tenants. Designed for continuous, maintenance-free operation.
Objective, Measurable Data
Multiple sensors provide spatially-accurate noise readings that are independent of proximity to any single sensor. Enforcement decisions are based on objective, timestamped acoustic data — not subjective complaints.
Subscription Service Model
Delivered as a recurring building service, billed to residents through their rent and to property management companies through a platform fee. Comparable to how smart thermostats, security, and access control are delivered as building services.
